About the Philippines
The Philippines, officially the Republic of the Philippines, is located in Southeast Asia with Manila as its capital. It shares maritime boundaries with Indonesia, China, and Malaysia, and is close to Australia. With a population of over 87 million, it is the 12th most populous country in the world.
Once colonized by Spain and later the United States, the Philippines gained independence on July 4, 1946. Today, it is the third-largest English-speaking nation globally and the largest in Asia. With a literacy rate of 94 percent, English is the official language of instruction at all levels of education, from elementary schools to universities.

Education System in the Philippines
The Philippine education system follows the American model, structured into three tiers: Elementary, High School, and Tertiary Education. Universities generally operate on a semester calendar:
- First Semester: April – June
- Second Semester: August – October
- Summer Semester: February – March
This familiar system makes it easy for international students to adjust and succeed.
